Sensex opens flat, Nifty below 12,200

Benchmark indices were trading flat with a negative bias on Friday. The S&P BSE Sensex declined 90 points, or 0.22 per cent, at 41,300 levels. Powergrid (down 3%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 1%) were the top laggards in the Sensex pack. On the other hand, Asian Paints and Titan were both up 0.7 per cent. The broader Nifty50 index dipped 28 points, or 0.23 per cent, at 12,150 levels. Nifty sectoral indices were trading mixed. Nifty IT index, down 0.6 per cent, took the deepest cuts, and Nifty Metal index was down 0.4 per cent. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index dipped 28 points, or 0.17 per cent, and the S&P BSE SmallCap index was flat.
