Sensex tumbles 300 pts, Nifty below 10,950

Benchmark indices were trading lower in Friday's early morning trade, tracking their Asian peers. The S&P BSE Sensex slumped 325 points, or 0.87 per cent, to 36,986. Vedanta, HCL Tech, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and State Bank of India were the top laggards in the Sensex pack. The broader Nifty50 index was down 66 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 10,963. All the Nifty sectoral indices were trading in the red. Nifty Auto and Nifty Metal indexes were both down over a per cent, each. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index was hovering around 13,378, down 99 points, or 0.74 per cent. The S&P BSE SmallCap index dipped 55 points, or 0.43 per cent, to 12,515.
