Sensex gains 400 points; Chemcon lists at 115% premium

The Indian markets shot up 1 per cent on Thursday, on the back of favourable global cues. Among headlne indices, the S&P BSE Sensex rose 400 points to 38,500 levels, and the Nifty50 index topped the 11,350-mark. Bajaj Auto and IndusInd Bank (up 3%) were the top Sensex gainers, followed by Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, and Bajaj Finserv (all up 2%). Reliance Industries gained 1 per cent after the company announced that US private equity firm Silver Lake Partners will invest an additional Rs 1,875 crore in Reliance Retail. PVR and Inox Leisure zoomed 15 and 17 per cent, respectively, after the central government allowed reopening of cinema halls, theatres, and multiplexes with effect from October 15 with a maximum of 50 per cent capacity. Besides, ONGC and Oil India dipped 3 per cent each after the government cut natural gas prices cut by 25 per cent. The trend among Nifty sectoral indices was positive, led by Nifty Bank index, up 1.7 per cent. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were trading 0.9 per cent and 1.1 per cent, respectively.
