Sensex opens higher, Nifty above 11,850

Benchmark indices were trading with marginal gains on Wednesday. The S&P BSE Sensex was trading 64 points, or 0.16 per cent, higher at 40,330 levels. ICICI Bank (up 1%), Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, and Bajaj Finance (all over 0.8% each) were the top gainers in the Sensex pack. On the other hand, YES Bank (down 5%) and State Bank of India (down 1%) were the top laggards. The broader Nifty50 index was trading around 11,880 levels, up 23 points, or 0.2 per cent. All the Nifty sectoral indices were trading in the green. Nifty Metal, Nifty Private Bank, and Nifty Fin Service indexes, all up 0.3 per cent each, were the top gainers. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index was up 40 points, or 0.28 per cent, and the S&P BSE SmallCap index climbed 22 points, or 0.17 per cent.
