Sensex up 100 pts, Nifty near 12,050

Benchmark indices opened higher on Friday, lifted by metals and public sector banks. The S&P BSE Sensex was up 110 points, or 0.27 per cent, at 40,890 levels. Tata Steel (up 1%), Vedanta and ICICI Bank (both up 0.8% each) were the top gainers in the Sensex pack. YES Bank (down 4%) was the top loser. The broader Nifty50 index was up 25 points, or 0.21 per cent, at 12,040 levels. The Nifty sectoral indices were trading largely in the green. Nifty Metal index gained the most 0.8 per cent, while Nifty IT index was down 0.2 per cent. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index the S&P BSE MidCap index was up 30 points, or 0.21 per cent, and the S&P BSE SmallCap index was up 34 points, or 0.25 per cent.
