Sensex rises 50 pts, Nifty below 11,850

Equity markets opened flat, but were trading in the positive territory on Thursday. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex was at 40,140 levels in the opening deals. Infosys, Vedanta, YES Bank, and Asian Paints were the top performers in the trade, up in the range of 1-1.7 per cent. On the flipside, Bharti Airtel, IndusInd Bank, HUL, and Tata Motors slipped up to 2.6 per cent. On the NSE, the Nifty50 slipped below the 11,850-mark, and was trading at 11,830. Sectorally, indices were trading mixed. Nifty Pharma was the top loser on the exchange, while Nifty Media index rallied the most, up 0.7 per cent. In the broader market, the S&P BSE mid-cap index was down 0.4 per cent, while the S&P BSE small-cap index was down 0.02 per cent.
